Drawing upon my experience as an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, where I've imparted valuable marksmanship skills to numerous students, it has become evident that individuals aspiring to acquire firearms for protection or sport must grasp the fundamentals correctly. It is crucial to recognize that bad habits are more challenging to overcome than cultivating good ones.
NRA FIRST (Firearms Instruction, Responsibility, Safety Training) Steps Pistol is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific pistol action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific pistol action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. The NRA Range Safety Officer program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification. NRA Range Safety Officers are people who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.
As a certified Range Safety Officer (RSO), Burx brings an added layer of professionalism and structure to every class. This certification ensures a safer, more controlled training environment, allowing students to focus on learning with confidence, knowing safety is always the top priority.
In this video, Instructor Burx Norrod is participating at an IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) event, demonstrating real-world skills under pressure. IDPA competition is an excellent training environment for learning how to safely and efficiently draw a firearm from concealment, move with purpose, and engage targets while managing stress and time constraints.
These matches closely simulate practical defensive scenarios, making them a valuable tool for developing concealed-carry proficiency and confidence.
